The City Council is a representative body of the citizens of the city of Novska and a local self-government body that, within the framework of its rights and duties, adopts general and other acts and performs other tasks in accordance with the Constitution, law or the Statute of the City of Novska.

The City Council has seventeen members elected in the manner prescribed by law (Statute of the City of Novska).

After local elections for members of the representative bodies of local self-government units which were held on May 18. 2025, the City Council of the City of Novska was constituted within the legal deadline on June 3, 2025.
 

The City Council of the City of Novska has the right to decide on the needs and interests of citizens of local importance, which directly meet the needs of citizens, and which are not assigned to state bodies by the Constitution or law, especially tasks related to:

  • settlement development and housing,
  • spatial and urban planning,
  • communal activities,
  • childcare,
  • social care,
  • primary health care,
  • upbringing and primary education,
  • culture, physical culture and sports,
  • consumer protection,
  • protection and improvement of the natural environment,
  • fire and civil protection.

The term of office of the City Council members lasts 4 years.
